Building Information Modelling
BIM stands for Building Information Modelling
It describes the process of creating and managing information on a construction project across the project's entire life cycle from cradle to grave. It holds information about every component of the building in one place.
Industry experts and the Government see BIM as a key enabler in achieving significant improvements in cost, value and carbon performance during the construction and operation phases of buildings. It answers the growing trend for digitalisation and need to improve processes and collaboration within the construction industry as well as improved long term facility management. BIM can offer benefits for the whole construction supply chain from designers, surveyors and engineers to contractors and system or component manufacturers.
As part of BIM Level 2, SFS can offer structured product data to our customers and specifiers. We have started to standardise our data according to our own defined data structure. The work to provide a comprehensive library of product information for BIM Level 2 is evolving and we welcome any feedback you'd like to share with us.
